ACFIA ANNUAL MEETING

 

The Associated Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs (ACFIA) convened April 3-5, 2008 at Kickapoo Friends Center McLoud, OK for its 139th Annual Meeting.

 Following are passages in regards to the avenues that should be taken to support the work at the Centers that were formerly under the operation of ACFIA.

 

The operation and oversight of Choctaw Friends Center and Mesquakie Friends Center is under the leadership of North Carolina and Iowa Yearly Meeting respectively. Transfer of Kickapoo Friends Center to Mid-America Yearly Meeting will be completed no later than July 1, 2008.  The continued support of all Yearly Meetings to the Centers is critical to allow them to continue to function under their new leadership. Financial support for Choctaw and Mesquakie should be sent to their respective Yearly Meetings. Financial support for Kickapoo should be sent to Kickapoo Friends Center. ACFIA will continue their not for profit status for an indefinite period of time to handle any matters that may arise. The mailing address for ACFIA will be maintained to receive any correspondence.  Any funds that ACFIA receives which are designated to specific Centers will be distributed appropriately to those centers, with any undesignated funds being equally divided among the 3 centers.

Following is a report of the General Assembly of ACFIA that was held on Saturday, April 5, 2008

 

The General Assembly of Associated Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs was convened at 8:30 a.m.

Joyce Hollingsworth, acting Presiding Clerk.

 

  • Brad Wood conducted devotional time beginning with a time of open worship
  • Music was provided by Gabriel and Michael Bell
  • Brad and Christina Wood, Center Directors gave an update of happenings at Kickapoo Friends Center.

               Good things happening include a Boy Club which meets weekly, Christine was named Para-professional of the Year for the state of Oklahoma, the new board has been set up to handle the business of Kickapoo Center when it is a part of EFC- MAYM

  • Corey and Jennifer York, Center Directors gave an update of happenings at Choctaw Friends Center

Good things happening are the after school program of which Irene Prindall has been a great asset to,  the rummage and the start of after school tutoring program. The SOUL program continues to be an important part of the work at Choctaw.  

 

After a short recess the meeting was reconvened with silence

  • Victor and Brenda White, Center Directors and Ron Bryan, IYM Superintendent gave an update of happening at Mesquakie Friends Center

Good things happening include the Wednesday after school program, Victor’s trip to minister in Africa, the addition to their staff of Edwin Rivers and the new board that has been set up to handle the business of Mesquakie Friends Center.

  • Tom Harper, Finance Chairman, of the Executive Committee gave the updated financial report
  • Jill McNamara, Recording Clerk of the Executive Committee gave the report of the Executive Committee for this annual meeting including the following minuted items

 

Minuted.  In regards to the transfer of property and investments for Kickapoo Friends Meeting the trustees will sign the agreement provided by legal council for Kickapoo and approved  by ACFIA legal council. The transfer will be completed no later than July 1, 2008.

 

Minuted the sending of Annual Meeting summary  to all Yearly Meetings asking that this information be disseminated to every monthly meeting.

 

Minuted the following Message to be handed out to all attendees and for inclusion in the Annual Meeting summary
